Degradable materials
are virtually materials modified by adoption
of easily decomposed group, easily ruptured
chemical bond and easily transferred atoms
or groups into chemical structure through
polymer synthetic technologies, or by addition
of components which can be swallowed by microorganism
to molecular chain, only in which condition,
molecular chain is ruptured, structure is
destroyed and material is quickly decomposed
in nature with the action of light and microorganism,
with no environmental pollution and recyclable
and reusable properties.
Biodegradable
materials refer to polymer materials whose
molecular weight decreases and performance
changes induced by the change of chemical
structure with the action of microorganism
in nature, or tissue cell, enzymes and body
fluid in human or animals.
It has the
following characteristics: easy to adsorb
water; containing sensitive chemical group;
low crystallinity; low molecular weight;
high linearity of molecular; high specific
surface area, etc.
Traditional
polymer materials greatly facilitate people's
lives. However, it is also main white pollution
source and a serious threat to environment,
resulting in pollution of groundwater and
soil and endangering human’s survival and
health. Meanwhile, biodegradable materials
develop rapidly because of its environment-friendly
property.
Bio-based
materials in China is similar to main materials
R&D internationally, mainly including
starch-based plastic, PLA, PHA, PBS, CO2
copolymer and their polyblend.
