Energy & Environment Department works at promoting the realization of the target of energy saving and emission reduction in China, as well as the improvement of global climate change environment. The key field is providing comprehensive and specialized consulting service for firms at home and abroad who develop Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Types of developed projects involving many fields including hydropower, wind power, improvement of energy efficiency, power generation by burning biomass, treatment of solid waste (garbage) and so on. At the moment, dozens of projects have been launched and developed after agreements being signed. Among them, several projects are in the stage of applying for the issue of CERs. Three hydropower projects have already obtained the first issue of CERs, bringing profit to the proprietor firm.

In Dec, 2009, we successfully obtained one hydropower CDM project issued by the first CERs, bringing nearly $840,000 (about 5.8 million RMB) emission reduction profits to the proprietor company. This project was approved by National Development and Reform Commission in June, 2007. On May 5th, 2008, approved by Clean Development Mechanism Executive Council of the United States, it officially registered. Going through two and half years, the project successfully obtained the first issue of emission reduction amount, bringing the proprietor company extra income besides the initial profit of power generation.

This hydropower CDM project was complicated in condition and very difficult. During the applying for registration and issuing stage, it was beset with difficulties. However, by means of good grasp of specialized knowledge, rigorous work attitude and untiring efforts, staff in Energy & Environment Department working for this project reduced the risk of the issue of registration to the lowest value, guaranteed the successful issue of CERs, laid a good foundation for the second, third and fourth issue of CERs and made a solid step towards developing new profit growth point for the proprietor company. Meanwhile, the future CDM projects could draw from the mature files and procedures and the valuable experience accumulated during the project development process.
